The experience
Listening with the forest.
Forest Awakening brings ecological data, sound, poetry and deep listening into a site-responsive performance environment. Developed in dialogue with Watershed Press and the Cascadian Zen gathering, the work creates conditions for sustained attention to forest health and the more-than-human world.
Its proof-of-experience form took place in a cedar grove on Salt Spring Island: a live, performed datapoetic deep-listening and presencing ceremony held alongside Zen poetry readings at Beaver Point Hall.
Within Gossamer Thread, Forest Awakening is one of several connected works exploring how curatorial practice, immersive media and place can hold ecological relationship.
